The Rotary Club of Smithtown was founded on February 11, 1958.  It serves the Smithtown and St. James areas of the Town of Smithtown.  Its over sixty members keep the club involved in all aspects of the local community.

Service Above Self, the principal motto of Rotary International is exemplified by the club's commitment to Rotary's  Four Avenues of Service:

  • Community Service
  • Vocational Service
  • International Service
  • Club Service

Community Service - 
Our Community Service activities include:
  • Smithtown Christmas Tree Lighting;
  • Holiday Theater Party for handicapped and needy children with a visit from Santa Claus and gifts for all;
  • 100 + Thanksgiving Day Food Baskets
  • Kidd Care® Photo ID Passports at both Smithtown and St. James Days;
  • Service Above Self Award to a member of the Smithtown Community and
  • Peter Beigen Award honoring a local law enforcement officer.

Vocational Service - 
Our Vocation Service activities to the youth of our community include:
  • Sponsorship of High School Interact Clubs in Smithtown, Middle Country & Newfield High Schools (Interact is a group of students following the ideal of Rotary who do their own fund raising and community service projects);
  • Sponsorship of a local Boy Scout Troop;
  • Participation in the Smithtown High School Business Advisory Committee;
  • Participation and sponsorship of the Smithtown High School Student Renaissance Program;
  • Several scholarships to deserving High School graduating students.

International Service - 
Our International Service activities include:
  • Annual sponsorship and hosting a Gift of Life child from a Third World Nation who is here for heart surgery;
  • Annual support of the Madagascar ???
  • Annual Support of the Rotary Polio Plus Program to eradicate polio worldwide by 2005

Club Service - 
Our Club Service activities when members get together and enjoy each others' company include:
  • Family Picnic;
  • Family Pizza Night;
  • Holiday Dinner Party;
  • Past President's Dinner;
  • L.I. Duck's Baseball Game and
  • Working together on various club projects and fund raisers.
